If the path to Hell is paved with good intentions, my lack of blogging lately would account for the growing warmth. Or maybe the weather is just finally turning warmer up here. Nah, must be the first one.
On Mother's Day, I did what most would likely describe as the bare minimum (flowers, secret brunch reservations, card, etc) so it's no surprise that I was completely upstaged by Madelyn. We are growing increasingly familiar with her perverse streak (if she's done with her meal and you try and take her plate but she's upset she'll insist on giving the plate to the parent that's busy doing something else, she likes to try and 1-2-3 -Mime Out! Theresa and I for the slightest of infractions, her new favorite toy is whatever is Isaac's new favorite toy, and since there are things that we ask her not to touch (because we're crazy to have her leave the hot stove or circular saw alone) she's taken to pointing things out to us that are hers and "NO TOUCH!"...but I digress), but she went above and beyond to make me look bad on this one.
She just started holding T's hand. Spontaneously, and in preference to my hand. Then, she wanted Mama to carry her to bed. Then, she wanted T to read to her in bed. In the blink of an eye, she became a Mama's girl, after 8 months of preferring me with a vengeance. I'm not going to lie, it hurts the feelings a bit. Of course, that's nothing compared to the MONUMENTAL RELIEF that accompanies the hurt, so don't fret, I'll make it.
Isaac, over the month since Mother's Day, is starting to prefer the Big Dude in the house. Which would be great, if this didn't start shortly after we got back from Texas and he picked up the worst diarrheal illness we've ever seen. 8 diaper changes a day, diapers that smell like vomit, and blowouts that have resulted in clothes being thrown out and soaking through entire outfits (diaper, onesie, shirt, pants, jacket, shoes & socks, and my shirt and shorts...did I mention this occurred when I was with him at our neighbor's swingset (Auntie Oanh's Park)? have given real menace to the term "Code Brown." He now knows Pedialyte by name and is becoming acquainted with most of their flavors, and of course since he now likes Baba, guess who the lucky Diaper Changing Champ is? Uh huh. I'm getting that boy a cork for a belated B-day present.
If anyone was wondering, we got the kids a Bounce House for a combined Birthday present and moving distraction. Theresa and I are frantically packing/sporadically carpooling down to Gig Harbor with Prius & vanfulls of gear prior to the movers showing up on Monday (We've been told by the pro's that it will take 4 days! To move our stuff 30 miles to Gig? 4? Really? We're definitely not in Japan anymore....), so with a big basement at the new place and a need for a room we can throw the kids in and get some unpacking done, it became the gift that keeps on giving. Plus it made the kids really excited for all those trips down to Gig...they think it's just to go hit the Bounce House and get some Qdoba mexican food, but at least it gives them a reason to be excited about the new digs!
We are saddened to leave our wonderful neighbors, Pat Ryan and Chung & Oanh, not to mention the world-class views that the Hood Canal offers, but it's hard to put a price on living in a house that heats up in the winter (and for $750/month in electric bills, it should!) and isn't falling apart.
More to come, packing calls...at the least, between Aunt Patricia coming Wednesday and our Nanny Alissa still being with us, we could hardly ask for better help!
