Jacque Cousteau He's Not.

As mentioned in the last post, Auntie K brought a host of new bath toys, including a wind-up whale with a functional blow-hole (pity the whale without it!), a swimming fish, a flipping seal, and a paddling turtle.  Isaac is terrified of the lot of 'em!  The paranoia is spreading, in fact, so multiple toys that have been in the tub for months now scare him as well.  Isaac will just stand up in the tub, refusing to sit down, with a look of abject terror if the fearful denizens of the deep are within sight.   Count us out for "Shark Week."

In other news, the kids have picked up more ticks than a mangy dog.  Isaac has progressed from Dr. No to Mr. Uh-Oh.  Anything out of place, any speck of dirt, a wayward oat from the morning cereal, a soiled diaper, invading aliens..you name it, he just keeps repeating "Uh Oh" in a concerned voice.  It's actually a refreshing change from "NO!"
Meanwhile, Madelyn fills any moment of silence with "Isaac crying?"  Within moments of waking up, as we're walking out of her room after kissing her goodnight, while she's sitting next to a happily snacking Isaac in their highchairs, even when she's on the toilet doing her business, she'll speak or whisper the question/accusation/statement.  We've even attempted to pre-empt, telling her that Isaac's sleeping right before we leave the room as she's going to sleep...only to hear her parting query....DOH!
In other ways, though, her expressive repertoire is really taking off.  After reading (and reading, and reading again) Jane Yolen's How Does a Dinosaur Say Goodnight, she now likes to practice crying face, poutface (see below, including crossed arms), happy face, and Big Kiss.  It's darned cute.
