Isaac the Terrible, When will Your Reign End?

It's hard to know where to begin...from bonking his sister in the head with anything at hand, to reflexively just saying "NO!" anytime you ask him anything (some would say I deserve this, for reasons that remain unclear but may have something to do with my pleasant teenage years), Isaac remains a force to be reckoned with.  A small, incontinent, and completely uninhibited whirling dervish of fearsome toddler terpitude.  Though it is cute to see him spin until he falls down (all of 2 spins, he's not so coordinated) and laugh.

In good news, he's come up with an adorable name for Madelyn - he calls her "Mei-Mei."  He'll go around the room identifying people - MaMa, BaBa, Mei Mei. When you're out of sight, it's a Marco Polo-like tick, chanting "Baaa-Baaa"...to which you reply "Is-aaaac"...and then he'll name someone else or just call out again, trying to confirm his primitive little network is intact.  Or he'll just start squeaking and screaming, actually causing pain at times as his little vocal chords can emit the most piercing sounds. Madelyn, if not in immediate physical danger, will shake her head knowingly and say with a sigh, "Isaac..."

Nana and Grampaw are here this week, and as usual have showered the kids with gifts.  Madelyn loves her new baby doll, which she likes to carry around by the ankles hanging upside down.  Theresa was worried that Madelyn didn't understand how to treat her doll like a real baby, until she recalled that Madelyn is modeling my daily behavior/child transport techniques.  Clearly, T's fears are well-founded...

In great news, yesterday was our Washington State Final Adoption Hearing!  We trundled the entire fam to the Kitsap County Courthouse, where a slightly harried female judge declined to review the 1" stack of original adoption/citizenship documents I had prepared, stating that she had reviewed our file, and were we ready to raise our hand and swear that we'd be good parents?  Or something to that effect...the entire affair lasted about 2 minutes, then she signed the Findings of Fact and the Decree of Adoption, thereby allowing the state of WA to issue us birth certificates!  With the kids American names!  This will allow us to start the process of changing their names everywhere else....which brings me to the next good news, since we had all the needed citizenship docs in hand and were at the county clerk's office, we happily handed over one of our newly-minted Decree of Adoption copies with the frantically-filled out applications, and actually (and really quite unintentionally) got the kids Passport applications on their way!  With that in hand (hopefully in 6 weeks time...), we can set about getting their names corrected in the social security database, then in CHCS/DEERS (Navy systems), and then hopefully be done with the legal/identification hurdles!   Although we were tempted, we didn't change Isaac's middle name to "the Terrible."  Yet.
