So an update on the Crib training as described in Dr. Ferber's book. Madelyn is now sucessfully crib trained and sleeping well. It took that one hard night, which amounted to 1 h and 45 minutes of bouts of screaming, wailing and finally tapering to whimpering, with intermittent reassuring visits every 3-10 minutes by mom and dad. It has now been five nights, and every night after the first, she has gone down with minimal crying or whimpering. Tonight was the best yet, with the duration of whimpering lasting from the time it took for Joel to walk from the crib to exit her bedroom door.
We are elated that she is sleeping better. It must be great for her that she doesn't have to worry about whoever went to sleep with her abandoning her later such that she'd wake up alone (which we always did initially since we weren't going to bed at 8pm!). I also think she likes the security and coziness of the crib compared to the queen size bed she was sleeping on. A huge thanks to our friends Lily and Charles for the Ferber book!!
Isaac never required any training once we actually tried putting him in the crib awake in his own room alone. After we put him inside the crib, he lies down and sucks his thumb and is almost asleep by the time I get out the door. Nary a whimper. He's a dream baby.
