Joel, Auntie P and the kids. We took a day trip to Port Townsend, a delightful quaint port town about an hour north.
We had fish and chips and the kids did great, other than an incident in which we had to pull over for Madelyn to go to the bathroom in the field. She's our little soldier! We are having so much fun watching these children grow and develop. Madelyn learns new words and phrases almost daily. Last week, Patricia and I took them to a Mexican restaurant for lunch after story time at the Library (that's a whole different blog). We sat at a booth while the waitress was getting the high chairs. When the high chairs showed up, Madelyn blurted out spontaneously with glee "high chairs, high chairs!" It was really funny. We say these words all the time at home but never really heard her say it or quizzed her, so it was a surprise that she knew them.
We also went shopping for shoes. Isaac came with two pairs of sandals from Taiwan which do not work in the Pacific Northwest where we have just recently moved and a pair of shoes which were too small from the get-go. We also wanted to get Madelyn some galoshes because our lawn is very thick and often wet. So shoe shopping we went. It was clear that Madelyn knew all about shopping. She let us put different shoes on her, she cooperated with walking in them, etc. It was like she was saying "Finally, you're taking me shopping!"
Madelyn loves to play with her food. The other day, she was eating without a shirt on because she had spilled water all over it. She then started rubbing her yogurt all over chest and now when she eats yogurt, she wants to do this, i.e. tries to get her shirt off etc. We think it's because she's become so accustomed to caregivers rubbing soothing ointments on her body after bath time to treat her sensitive skin.
Madelyn got a glimpse of Isaac's full frontal nudity during a recent diaper change. She seldom really pays attention but for some reason she was. She looked at him and pointed at his groin and giggled and said "bien bien" This is Mandarin Chinese for "poop" She thought he was pooping. It was pretty darn funny.
thank you for the post. ok, the picture w/joel and patricia is too funny. joel's in shorts and patricia is all bundled up for what appears to be inclement weather? what was the weather that day? love the picture of madelyn popping a squat in the woods. i'm sure she'll love it even more when she's older (like 12), especially since it's been posted for ALL to enjoy.
ReplyDeleteon an even happier note, 17 more days until Uncle T and Auntie K and NANA get to hold the babies :)
It was actually a beautiful, sunny, but cold day. Joel was wishing he had dressed differently.
